Super Bowl XLIX Drink Suggestions

Super Bowl XLIX Drink Suggestions

Be it a fan of football or a fan of the two teams, Super Bowl XLIX is something you don’t want to miss. Now, we understand if you might not be a die hard Seahawks or Patriots fan (or you might just be) but we do know you at least want one team to loose. So in the spirit of football we have suggested pairings for the team you want to win, or just want to beat the other guys.

Seattle Seahawks

If you consider yourself the 12th Man then we have just the drink for you:

Old Pal

The Old Pal is a cocktail made with Canadian Rye Whiskey, French Vermouth (dry), and Campari. It is similar to a Negroni, but with Rye whiskey instead of Gin and the use of dry vermouth instead of sweet vermouth.

  • 1 1/2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 3/4 oz dry vermouth
  • 3/4 oz Campari
  • garnish with lemon twist

Mix the 3 ingredients in a mixing glass, and add ice. Stir to chill, and strain into a cocktail glass.

Redhook

If beer is more your pace, we suggest the local Seattle craft beer, Redhook. Redhook currently produces several styles of beer but their main brew, Redhook ESB (5.8% ABV), is an Amber beer. Brewed in the style of a traditional British ESB (Extra Special Bitter), Redhook’s been making ESB continuously since 1987, and it’s now the benchmark for the Amber beer category. Despite having “bitter” in its name, Redhook ESB is really not that bitter at all. This brew is all about the balance of caramel malt sweetness completed by spicy, citrusy hops.

New England Patriots

Do you happen to not have the letter ‘r’ in your vocabulary? Do you just refer to them as Bill and Tom? Have you considered naming your child Gron? Okay so the last one might be a push, but it is fair to say that you, my friend, are a die-hard Patriots fan. So heres is what you should cheers to:

Lime Rickey

The Rickey with a vodka twist. It is a highball drink traditionally made with gin or bourbon. We suggest vodka because you can try different flavors that can change up the drink.

  • 2 parts vodka
  • 1 part lime juice
  • soda water
  • 1 peel lime

Combine vodka, lime juice and shell in a highball or wine glass. Add ice, stir and then add soda water.

Sam Adams

Going to stock up on beer for the game? We suggest Sam Adams Boston Lager. Actually, you can’t go wrong with their season either. No matter what you choose, you are in good hands. Sam Adams is founded on six generations of brewers that pride themselves on quality, creatively and innovation. The Boston Lager is called their go-to beer and helped lead the American beer revolution. Pick this up for a balanced, complex and full-bodied original brew.
