Spring and Summer Seasonal Beers

spring and summer seasonal beer 1A fair amount of country songs can perfectly articulate just how much we love summer. But, to sum it all up, the sun is shining, our spirits are lifting, and everything is in season, including our favorite beers. So, the next time you swing by Festival, be sure to pick up a case of spring and summer seasonal beer to try before it’s too late.

Founders All Day IPA

Founders’ best-selling beer can be found in their All Day IPA, an all year session India Pale Ale. All Day has a low alcohol content, a high bitterness, and boasts a golden glow and white head upon the first pour. Also, the sweet and tangy flavors of guava, pineapple, mango, and papaya balance well with the bitter finish. So, if you are looking for a thin-bodied ale to sip through a hot afternoon, this is your beer.

  • 4.7% ABV
  • Food pairings: grilled shrimp skewers or spicy tacos
  • Availability: year round
  • Flavors: lemony citrus, tropical fruits, and cracker-like malt

Shiner Strawberry Blonde

As the summer heats up, indulge in Spoetzl Brewery’s finest summer fruit beers. Strawberry Blonde has a surprisingly clear, gold color considering the medium light-bodied beer is brewed solely with fresh, ripe strawberries from Texas. As a result, this refreshingly sweet and fruity beer perfectly reflects the summer season in which it hits the shelves each year.

  • 4.3% ABV
  • Food pairings: mussels, salmon
  • Availability: summer
  • Flavors: strawberry ice cream flavors, wheat malt, and a hint of honey

Blue Moon Summer Honey Wheat

Summer Honey Wheat is an American pale wheat ale that’s exceptionally crafted with clover honey and orange peel. Upon the first sip, you will taste the smooth, slightly sweet honey and citrus, as well as a low hop bitterness to provide balance. It’s no wonder why Summer Honey Wheat took home the Gold Medal at the 2010 Great American Beer Festival.

  • 5.2% ABV
  • Food pairings: marinated chicken or pork with a sweet and tangy sauce
  • Availability: summer
  • Flavors: light biscuity malt, orange citrus, and honey

Bell’s Oberon Ale

Available just six months out of the year, Oberon is a wheat ale made with only four ingredients. Specifically, none of them actually include any fruit or spices. However, the crisp, light-bodied beer has a spicy hop character with mildly fruity aromas. All in all, this spring and summer seasonal beer is the quintessential beer for a sunny afternoon session by the pool.

  • 5.8% ABV
  • Food pairings: savory- ham, duck, sushi; sweet- berries, watermelon, peaches
  • Availability: March-August
  • Flavors: wheat flavors, orange zest, and coriander

Old Dominion Cherry Blossom Lager

If you pour the aromatic, fruit-flavored lager into a glass, you can see a visible pink hue. That comes from the brew being conditioned on 300 pounds of Michigan cherries for 48 hours. The taste is sweet (but not overly sweet), with just a touch of tartness from the cherries, and hops to retain balance. Most noteworthy, the aroma of Cherry Blossom Lager is enough to leave you wondering just how good it tastes.

  • 5.4% ABV
  • Food pairings: Asian cuisine and summer BBQ
  • Availability: early Spring
  • Flavors: cherry, floral, grain
