DuClaw Brewing Company
Even as we are wrapping up the summer, we are always searching the perfect refreshing beer to quench whatever we are thirsting for. That’s why this month’s featured brewery is DuClaw Brewing Company!
DuClaw’s history of “making it cool” began with founder Dave Benefield’s college home brewing operation. His passion for brewing continued to grow after college, as did enthusiasm for high quality, and utterly unique, craft beer. In 1996, Dave opened DuClaw Brewery Company in Bel Air. After only a year, DuClaw had earned the title of “Bel Air’s hippest establishment.”
Dave Benefield and Brewmaster Jim Wagner continue to push the envelope, developing DuClaw’s wide variety of craft brews. Together they have created over 35 unique beers, as well as countless numbers of variations and blends. Festival Wine and Spirits is one of the many statewide distributors of DuClaw’s seasonal and year-round selections.
DuClaw has grown a lot since Benefield opened his first Bel Air brewpub back in 1996. DuClaw has since added three restaurant locations: Bowie Town Center, BWI, and Arundel Mills. They have also expanded facilities three times, with their latest state of the art facility located just outside of Baltimore. Unfortunately, because the facility is so new, DuClaw has not yet opened up the brewery for visitors or tours. But to get the DuClaw experience we recommend taking a trip to one of their four great restaurants. You can also check out their events schedule for more cool, beer related adventures!
Our Recommended Brew
This Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter is a tan, rocky head, full bodied brew that is almost black in color. It has a slightly sweet and malty flavor accented by the rich chocolate and peanut butter flavors. The brew has a subtle hop character, and 6.2% ABV, with a smooth dry finish. But it’s the lingering notes of chocolate and peanut butter that will leave you singing its name!
